What is a Paleo Diet?
“It is not as if farming brought a great improvement in living standards either. A typical hunter-gatherer enjoyed a more varied diet and consumed more protein and calories than settled people, and took in five times as much viatmin C as the average person today.”
― Bill Bryson
The concept of Paleo diet has been introduced through observations of medical explorers and anthropologists. They observed that primitive people, especially who used to survive on hunting activities were free from diseases that are known as modern degenerative diseases. Cases of type 2 diabetes, heart blockage, autoimmunity and neurodegeneration were hardly found among these primitive uncivilized people. The inference is these people were dependent mainly on animal food, rich in protein. Some of the common features of the diet are mentioned below:
It mainly consists of food items that could be gathered through hunting in the olden times, like fish, meats, vegetables, fruits, nuts, and seeds etc
Paleo diet cites the ‘discordance hypotheses’ as the reasoning behind eating the food items which early humans ate against the items which came into the scenario only 10,000 years ago
Discordance Hypothesis states that the relatively delayed and fast change in human diet recently has outpaced the ability of our bodies to adapt.
Our bodies are genetically mismatched to modern food items like grains, dairy, and legumes, since our genes haven’t changed much since the Paleolithic Era, and still prefer the traditional early human diet.
Besides meat, paleo diet proposes eating vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds in contrast to popular belief that it is only about eating meat.
A paleo diet is followed by those looking to reduce or maintain a stable and healthy body weight and those seeking help for planning meals and portions.

What is a Keto Diet?
“There are three reasons why people fail to reach a ketogenic state: too many carbohydrates, too much protein, or not enough fat.”
― Eric C. Westman
A Ketogenic Diet or Keto Diet is a high fat, low carb diet.
A drastic replacement of carbohydrates with fats in the body leads it to a state of ‘ketosis’ which makes the body extraordinarily efficient in burning fats.
A standard keto diet contains 70% fats, 20% proteins, and around 10% carbohydrates.
A keto diet places importance on developing meals around low carb vegetables, nuts, and seeds, cheese, eggs, meat, fatty fish, healthy oils etc.
Keto diet can not only help lose weight but can also help patients suffering from chronic diseases like Cancer, Alzheimer’s, Diabetes, Heart Diseases etc.

Paleo diet was developed with a hypothesis that modern man faces chronic diseases which didn’t plaque them in early days, so eating according to their practices will help improve health.
Keto diet was developed with the intent of disease management like diabetes, epilepsy etc. by achieving ketosis.
The paleo diet is based on the assumption that one should altogether eliminate modern food items like dairy and grains while they are free to manipulate the balance of other remaining macronutrients in their own way.
The Keto diet emphasizes on manipulating three basic macronutrients (carbs, fats, and proteins) in fixed proportions to achieve a disease free body.
Both Keto and Paleo diet aids and promote overall weight loss but Keto diet has been taken up primarily for addressing chronically diseased patients.
