What is Ayurveda?

  • Ayurveda, an age-old system of medicine from India which dates back to 5,000 years ago is used in healing all human diseases
  • It is cited as the “science or wisdom of life” which provides guidelines for leading a healthy life.
  • According to Ayurvedic Principles, no two people are same, so the treatment method for each and every individual is different
  • Its therapies involve the use of herbs, minerals and metallic compounds for therapeutical purposes.
  • It does not focus only on symptoms. It believes that diseases are preceded by a psychosomatic imbalance which is the real cause of their disease manifestation.

What are the Basic Principles of Ayurveda?

  • As per Ayurvedic literature, all humans are born with a distinctive proportion of biologic principles or doshas.
  • The doshas is unique proportion of vata, pitta and kapha. It represents every individual genetic code which later on takes part in the formation of mental and physical characteristics.
  • Understanding operations and methods of the doshas helps recognize their manifestations and the resultant diseases.
  • The constitution of mind or body is determined first for all patients. This helps to create the path for personalized treatment

What Causes Diseases as Per Ayurveda?

  • Health is a state of harmonious bodily function where all the three doshas are in balance as per their original state or ‘prakriti’.
  • Most ailments are known to breed from the mind before taking over the physical plane.
  • An imbalanced or restless mind full of negative ideas triggers the next stage of illness where the foremost pulse manifests into the physical plane. It is now that one of the biological principles or doshas accumulates in a particular place of center in the digestive system.
  • Consequently, it results in an imbalance of vital life energy and triggers different kinds of ailments.

How can Ayurveda Help in Treating Diseases?

  • Under Ayurveda, Ahara (food), Brahmacharya (abstinence) and Nidra (sleep) are considered as sub-pillars of a healthy life.
  • Eating the right food and at the right time is imperative to good health and can help avoid a slew of incurable diseases.
  • The Ayurvedic text also lays great emphasis on foods that are compatible and incompatible.
  • Ayurveda also details the importance of nature, preparation, quantity, combination, rules of use, time factor etc. of food.
